How to Price Pooper Scooper Services

Charge too little and a full route still won't pay you. Charge too much and you won't fill it. Here's a simple way to set pet waste removal prices you can actually live on.

Start with your cost per stop

Before looking at what competitors charge, work out what a stop costs you:

  1. Time on site: a weekly 1–2 dog yard often takes 8–15 minutes.
  2. Drive time to the next stop: in a dense neighborhood, 3–5 minutes. Across town, 15+.
  3. Your hourly target: what you want to earn (or pay a technician) per hour, plus vehicle, fuel, bags, disinfectant, insurance and software.

If a stop takes 20 minutes including drive time and you need $45/hour to cover pay and costs, your floor is about $15 a visit. Anything under that loses money.

Common pricing structures

Bi-weeklyHigher per-visit rateTwice the waste, longer stop

Add a per-dog charge for each dog beyond the first one or two, and an initial cleanup fee for new customers based on how long since the yard was last cleaned.

Add-ons that raise your average ticket

Bill so you actually get paid

Pricing doesn't help if you're chasing payments. Send invoices automatically from completed visits, let customers pay online, and keep service history in a client portal so disputes are easy to settle. Pooper Scoop HQ does all of this, starting on a free plan.

Raise prices once a year

Fuel, insurance and wages go up every year. A small annual increase with 30 days' notice is normal and most customers accept it. New customers should always start at your current rate.

FAQ

How much do pooper scoopers charge per visit?

Many U.S. pooper scooper companies charge roughly $12–$25 per weekly visit for one or two dogs, with extra for each additional dog. Rates vary by market, yard size and frequency.

Should I charge an initial cleanup fee?

Yes. A first cleanup for a yard that hasn't been cleaned in weeks takes much longer than a regular visit. Many scoopers charge a separate one-time fee based on how long it's been and how many dogs there are.

Should I charge per visit or monthly?

Many operators quote per visit but bill monthly or by subscription, which smooths cash flow and cuts payment friction. Automatic recurring billing with online payment makes this easy.

Try it on your real route. The Free plan costs $0 and needs no credit card. Growth (route optimization and online payments) is free for 15 days, then $9.99/month.
